Infants of the Spring is the second episode of the first season of The Royals.
At a garden party, Prince Liam encounters his ex-girlfriend Gemma.
Two weeks later, Eleanor is seen waking up next to her blackmailing bodyguard. She makes a grab for his phone to delete the incriminating video, but he catches her and tells her that he has the video backed up on several hard-drives. Jasper orders Eleanor to get him breakfast and if she doesn't do as he says then he'll release the video. However, Helena knocks and Jasper disappears. The queen confronts her daughter about her social media exploits. Helena assigns Eleanor to Rachel, who will monitor and approve all social media posts. After the Queen and her assistants leave Jasper reappears and commands her to get him breakfast again which she eventually does. Liam and Ophelia are on a date drinking coffee. The castle is getting back to business after Robert’s death. Head of security Ted tells Helena they've received death threats. However this seems to be the usual business and the queen is more interested in talking bad about Ophelia. The queen has decided to throw a garden party, and invites Cyrus, in an effort to make the public love the monarchy so they don’t vote to abolish it.
Liam goes back to his room to find his guards are attempting to eject a scantily clad blonde, Gemma Kensington, who is Liam’s ex. While Liam talks to Gemma, Ophelia is having coffee with one of Liam's friend, Ashok, who tells her that Liam talks about her all the time. Back to Liam and Gemma, Liam says that she broke up with him months ago and is suddenly back now that he’s monarch-to-be. Gemma refuses to give up. Later Simon points out how crass it is to throw a party right after Robert’s death. Eleanor has decided to invite her cousins Maribel and Penelope. Ted cautions everyone to be careful when greeting the public. Helena goes behind Liam's back and invites Gemma, unaware that he had already invited Ophelia. On the way to the garden party Eleanor smokes drugs and takes a bottle of champagne from one of The Royal Family's fan and drinks it. Liam on the other hand decides to crowd surf being followed by his bodyguard Marcus. Both Ted and the Queen are not pleased. At the garden party, Cyrus tells Liam to get a grip because he's about to be the next King of England and is squandering it, making Liam reevaluate his priorities. Eleanor and Jasper wander the party together.
The cousins are accosting Andy Sinclair, an American Olympic swimmer. Eleanor’s interest is piqued, making Jasper is mad, but Eleanor points out he can’t control her in public. Eleanor begins to flirt with Andy trying her hardest to make Jasper jealous which is successful. Gemma and Ophelia have a little chat. Gemma bucks stereotypes by being smart and very good at diplomacy. Ophelia challenges her to a bourbon drinking game. They both down a bottle of bourbon however Ophelia is much drunker than Gemma and passes out in the bushes. Cyrus approaches parliament member James, who missed the morning’s regent meeting, James mentions that he is sober now however Cyrus offers him drugs which he takes. Then they have sex and Cyrus blackmails him. Helena’s meeting and greeting and dueling with prickly politicians and begins to eye a guy in particular. Simon talks to the servant who Cyrus has taken an unfortunate liking to, Prudence. He helps her prepare the fruit tartlets and they bond a bit. Liam helps Ophelia home and tells her Gemma was his first love but before they can continue their conversation, Ophelia throws up in front of him. Liam hangs out with her until she sobers up. Ophelia tells him that she’s not appropriate for him and his status. Liam reluctantly accepts it but does not plan on giving up.
Eleanor brings the Olympic swimmer back to her room in an attempt to take one step further in showing Jasper that he does no control her. However Jasper knocks him out or kills him before anything can commence. Penelope and Maribel drag his unconscious body away as Eleanor calls Jasper out on his BS and he storms off. Helena and Ted walk and talk she again asks him to get rid of Ophelia. She then retires to her bedroom, where the man, who she called Captain Lacey, whom she had been eyeing earlier is there waiting for her. She’s momentarily surprised, but then they embrace and she kisses him before she kicks him out but before he goes, he says, "Ellie, I love you." and Helena replies "I love you" as well as he makes his way through the secret passage way in her bedroom. Later Jasper tries to blackmail Eleanor for sex again; however, now that she knows he cares about her, he won't be releasing the video and kicks him out. Eleanor brings Ophelia a hangover cure and asks for her help. Prudence shows us she’s carrying around a gun. Liam asks his father to delay disbanding the monarchy and to give him a chance believing that he has the potential to be a great king, Simon agrees to give him a shot hoping for the best.
